a simple form of art
A collage is and can be a very simple form, and also an inexpensive way of creating your very own personal type of artwork. A collage is an artistic composition consisting of flat materials fixed upon a picture surface. You can paste, tape, staple, tuck, nail, tack, and glue your specially selected items upon the surface. A collage can be simply made out of just about anything made of paper. You can also use anything you wish such as photographs, pictures out of magazines, baseball cards, greeting cards, etc.., There's no limit to what you can use on your collage as long as it's somewhat flat, and you can fix it to what you are using as a background securely. The background itself can be made of paper, cardboard, plastic, a piece of plywood or just about anything that you desire to use as long as it's flat. The background doesn't have to be square in shape, it can be round, triangular, or any other shape you choose. This is your artwork, so you should decide how you want it to look. The collage pictured above is one that I composed over time, and there are literally layers and layers over top of one another. I used anything that was colorful, which I liked at the time. There are old lottery tickets, ticket stubs, drink coasters, pictures cut out of newspapers, and the list goes on and on just like the energizer bunny rabbit. I even used plastic badges in this collage, and everything was fixed upon the heavy duty cardboard background with staples from your everyday household stapler. I know this subject isn't rocket science, but I just wanted to dedicate a hub to this long lost art form. You don't have to be in elementary school to enjoy making a collage out of things that you just aren't quite ready to throw away yet, and making collages is certainly among fun things to do when your bored on cold rainy days. I also wanted to share with you the collage in which I put together with thousands upon thousands of staples.
